Holy wasabi there’s a new treat in town! The sushi doughnut (which, don’t worry guys, isn’t actually a doughnut) is making a sticky and white-hot entrance into the world of #foodporn.
In the year of “doing it for the insta,” sushi doughnuts are coming to screens (although not stores) near you. Consisting mostly of rice and avocado, the ‘doughnut’ is a delicious vegan substitute for all of your I-eat-kale-for-breakfast friends.
What beauty is this?
Sam Murphy, who heads the Instagram account So Beautifully Raw, seems to be the not-so-mad scientist behind the vegan meets faux fried food treat.
With sushi rice garnished by sesame ginger, cashew Mayo, and fresh avocado, this creation is seriously missing a (doughnut) hole in the market of true American oversized portions.
This tuna avocado doughnut looks phenomenal and (almost)too good to eat. Almost.
The craftsmanship behind this “healthy meets decadent” dinner is unreal.
It’s a whole meal that literally fits in the palm of your hand. Cheers to human ingenuity, am I right?
That looks like a food coma induced heaven. How utterly scrumptious.
But in case you didn’t want to hop on the bandwagon (or rice cart), Earnest Donuts in Dallas, Texas provide a similar aesthetic with less fish involved. This place requires a 24 hour call in advance to ensure there is enough time to whip up these specialty “sushi look-alike doughnuts” comprised completely of the sugary goodness we all know and love.
Can you say yum (or maybe yum yum sauce)?
Being one of New York’s newest (ahem) locals, I have to say that the sushi experiences I’ve had here are some of the best, but if I had known that I could marry my love for seafood and doughnuts, I definitely would’ve taken that delicious, rice-packed route.
Add some sake to the mix and you are in for a golden night (or morning. no judgement here).
